South African Development Studies Association
SOUTH AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT STUDIES ASSOCIATIONBased in South Africa the South African Development Studies Association (SADSA) is open to all individuals, institutions, corporations and organisations interested in and active in the field of development. Currently our membership constitutes mainly of individual academics attached to Departments, Centres and Institutes of Development Studies in South Africa as well as individual teaching and research institutions. The founding values of the SA Constitution, namely human dignity, the achievement of equality and the advancement of human rights and freedoms constitute the vision of the Association.
The objectives of SADSA are to perform promote an understanding of national and international development matters, theories and practices through teaching, workshops, discussion and study groups, seminars, congresses, publications and research and by such other means as many conform with its aims and objectives and approved by Council, and encourage and establish contact in order to stimulate cooperative relationships amongst individuals, institutions and agencies in South Africa and abroad concerned with the study and promotion of national and international development.
The activities of individuals and member institutions include promoting and undertaking scientific research on development in Sub Saharan Africa, particularly in the field of the social sciences and humanities; functioning as a national association in the field of Development Studies contributing to education and teaching in the social sciences and humanities promoting the dissemination of knowledge and an understanding of development issues in the wider public sphere. Individual and institutional members of SADSA are involved in Master and PhD supervision.
